Post-Surgical Rehabilitation
Recovery From Surgery
Patients who've had major surgery, or any kind of surgical procedure, are now leaving hospitals earlier than ever before. Many of them can't get back to living their full lives until they've undergone therapy: physical, occupational and/or speech, to name a few.
Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital encourages you to specifically request getting moved to Sunnyview for your post-op recovery and rehabilitation. It's important for you to understand the options you'll have, and the Sunnyview difference:
Therapy at Home
A good, convenient option for people whose therapy needs aren't particularly complex or involved. However due to a shortage of therapists, sometimes it's difficult scheduling them to come to your house when you need them.
Therapy at a Nursing Home/Short Term Rehab Facility
Generally speaking, there's often a nursing home close to where you live that offers therapy after you return home. It's important to understand, however, that this is known as "sub-acute rehab," which basically means it's fewer hours (less time doing therapy/more time in your room), and less intense, than the rehab you get at a rehab hospital such as Sunnyview.
Therapy at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital
The kind of therapy you receive from a hospital such as Sunnyview is the most intense level of therapy allowed, in terms of how much time you actually spend "in therapy" each day. This probably isn't a good match for patients who were frail and weak prior to their surgery, nor is it necessarily the best match if surgery was relatively minor and your therapy needs aren't that great. But for patients who really need the gold standard in therapy services in order to get them back to living life, you'll definitely want to insist on Sunnyview. Sunnyview offers what's known as an "acute level" of therapy, so while we may not be as close to you as some other options, this is definitely the option to select when your rehabilitation needs are significant and you want to give yourself the best chance of achieving as full a recovery as possible.
