"I cannot say enough good things about Sunnyview. I am a healthcare professional… was in the business of reviewing quality of care in health care programs, so I am not being arbitrary. Following back surgery that left me essentially a paraplegic I spent about three weeks as an inpatient at Sunnyview. All of the staff from the director, professional clinicians, nurses aides, to the cleaning staff …all were fabulous. When I didn’t believe I would ever walk again, they put me into the exoskeleton and taught me how to walk! PT and OT staff were tremendous. They pushed me when I needed to be pushed and were patient when I needed someone to be patient. I made great progress. I slowly transitioned to a wheelchair than began to use a walker. I was discharged to the outpatient department and attended physical therapy twice a week until the end of March. I transitioned from a walker to crutches, and finally to a cane. They trained me how to use the machines in the gym and provided instructions so I can continue my rehabilitation. The entire experience, because of the staff, was TOP NOTCH!"
“In OT department I got incredible care from the staff. My OT was the best of all, Marybeth. She is such a humble soul, makes you comfortable and is very respectful. Also she teaches you a lot about the problem you came for and all the rest of staff there are very attentive to their clients I would recommend everyone to visit Sunnyview Occupational Therapy. I appreciate them, all teach with courtesy. God bless them all for the good work there every day!"
"The occupational therapy I received at Sunnyview Hospital was very thorough and helpful. Sarah, my hand therapist, was very informative and encouraging throughout my sessions giving me confidence to try new exercises and continue at home. She was always pleasant and professional and made my recovery possible."

It's Worth Making the Trip
Sunnyview is the only stand-alone hospital in the region devoted to helping people recover from traumatic injuries, illnesses, and major surgeries. Our acute level of hospital care means our patients receive more hours each week focusing on rehabilitation compared to other facilities such as nursing homes. Sunnyview is only a few hours from major cities in the northeast:
- Three hours from New York City
- Three hours from Boston
- Four and a half hours from Buffalo
For families traveling to Sunnyview, Jack's Place provides a comfortable, convenient, and free place to stay during treatment.

There's a big difference. We're a hospital specifically devoted to physical rehabilitation. We offer what's known as "acute" rehab—which is basically "hospital-level" rehab. That allows us to give patients a lot more hours of rehab during the week to help them recover quicker and return home sooner. Most other places offering inpatient rehab are nursing homes that provide "sub-acute" rehab, meaning fewer hours and less intense rehab. Depending If your insurance company approves your admission to Sunnyview, you should definitely choose Sunnyview.
Absolutely. We're the only hospital of its kind—dedicated solely to physical rehab—in all of upstate New York. In many cases, we represent a patient's best chance of getting back to living the life they previously led. We actually have patients at Sunnyview who also live outside of the Northeast. Over the years, we've rehabilitated patients from nearly every state.

We recognize how important it is for patients and loved ones to see each other and we believe family support is vital to a patient's recovery. However, at times we have to revert to a visitation policy that is more restrictive than we like due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns. Generally speaking, we are more restrictive when transmission rates in the community are trending higher. Here's our current visitation policy.
