The Joint Commission conducts accreditation surveys of organization to determine their compliance with nationally established Joint Commission standards. These standards deal with organization quality, safety-of-care issues, and the safety of the environment in which care is provided.
If you wish to contact the organization's management, please call the Patient Relations Manager (518-525-1192) who will be able to help you identify and/or contact an appropriate management representative to discuss and resolve your concerns. Anyone believing that they have issues concerning safety and quality of care in this organization on a continuous basis are encouraged to contact the organization's management. If the concerns in question cannot be resolved at this level, then the Joint Commission may be contacted as stated below:

Physician Credentialing

In order to best serve the interests of St. Peter's Hospital and the health care needs of the community which it serves, St. Peter's awards credentials and privileges to qualified physicians in the following categories:

In accordance with federal, state and The Joint Commission requirements, St. Peters requests comprehensive information from candidates for medical staff membership and performs primary source verification of credentials.  In addition to credentials information, St. Peter's requests and examines information related to the six ACGME-related competencies and grants privileges based on current performance information.

Attending (Active) Staff

The attending staff shall consist of licensed physicians, dentists and podiatrists who are appointed as attending staff in the manner provided in the St. Peter's Hospital Medical/Dental Staff Bylaws. Members of the attending staff may admit patients, perform procedures and write orders within the scope of their clinical privileges. They are eligible to vote on matters coming before the staff for a vote and to hold office, subject to the provisions of these bylaws. Attendance at staff meetings is a professional obligation and expectation of each attending staff member, but is not required.

Courtesy Staff

The courtesy staff shall consist of those practitioners in the fields entitled to be considered for Staff membership who are not members of the Attending Staff. The courtesy staff shall be appointed in the manner prescribed in the St. Peter's Hospital Medical/Dental Staff Bylaws. Members of the courtesy staff may perform consultations, provide advice to the member of the attending staff who has responsibility for the care of such patients, and write notes in the medical records of such patients. Members of the courtesy staff may not admit patients, perform procedures or write orders. They shall not be eligible to vote or to hold office. While they shall not be obliged to attend staff meetings, it is expected that they will do so whenever possible.

Nonclinical Consultant Staff

Nonclinical consultants shall be practitioners who are recognized specialists of outstanding reputation who have expressed a willingness to provide educational, laboratory, administrative and other such nonclinical services for the Hospital. Nonclinical consultants shall not be involved in the care of patients.

Appointment shall be made by the Hospital Board of Trustees on the recommendation of the executive committee of the medical/dental staff. Nonclinical consultants may not admit patients, perform procedures or write orders. They shall not be eligible to vote or to hold office. While they shall not be obliged to attend staff meetings, it is expected that they will do so whenever possible.
