St. Peter's Hospital Auxiliary
The St. Peter's Auxiliary, Inc., has been an integral part of St. Peter's Hospital since its earliest days. The auxiliary was founded on September 14, 1904, when a group of women began meeting for projects including sewing garments for patients and linens for hospital use.
The Auxiliary is comprised entirely of volunteers who provide support services throughout the hospital. These range from administrative functions-such as operations for the Mercy Me Gift Shop and the For Pete's Sake Thrift Shop-to a variety of programs and services designed to support education and health care throughout the community.
Auxiliary members (or "Auxilians") serve in a leadership role for fundraising and project development for St. Peter's Hospital. The Auxiliary is instrumental in planning and conducting special events and fundraising activities.
The Auxiliary also supports Becky's House, a temporary residence for families of hospital patients who must travel long distances.
Other Auxiliary activities include:
- sponsorship of coffee cart and paging systems for family members in the surgical waiting areas;
- participation in the Healthy Baby program-providing supplies for needy families at the Family Health Center;
- Vials of Life" are provided to people at risk in the community. This vial holds pertinent medical information in case of an emergency; and,
- distribution of camisoles and pillows for women who have had mastectomies or lumpectomies.
Auxiliary members pay a $20 annual membership fee or, if they choose, a $200 lifetime membership.
