More Choices. More Convenience.

Wherever you work or live in the Capital Region, our patient service centers and full-service laboratories make it easier for you and your family to get high-quality lab services.

This includes blood draws and tests performed on other specimens, including urine, stool, wounds, cultures, etc. Your provider must complete an order (script) for all lab tests. Verbal requests are not accepted.

All of our draw sites are “walk-in only,” so you are able to arrive during our business hours at a time convenient for you.

Our expert staff includes board-certified pathologists, licensed medical technologists, histotechnologists, cytologists, technicians, phlebotomists, and laboratory assistants all working together to provide high-quality and compassionate care with fast and accurate test results. These results will help you and your health care team find answers to whatever health issues you are experiencing.

All St. Peter's Health Partners Laboratories are licensed by the NYS Department of Health, and certified by The Joint Commission and the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB).

Lab Services We Provide

  • Routine Lab Work

St. Peter’s Health Partners Laboratory locations perform routine specimen collection for adults. This includes blood draws and urine collections. We also accept other specimens for drop-off, such as stool or swabs collected by the provider or by the patient at home.

  • Pediatric Lab Work

All our locations have staff specially trained in pediatric blood draws for children of all ages.

  • Home Phlebotomy (blood draws for homebound patients)

A phlebotomist can be scheduled to visit your home to perform prescribed blood collections. This must be arranged by your provider and meet the guidelines for homebound patient services.

Things To Do BEFORE Your Lab Appointment

  • Ask the provider what test is being done and why?
  • Ask whether the test is collecting blood, urine, stool, etc.
  • Make sure your health insurance covers the outpatient lab test requested. Most major insurances are accepted.
  • If you will be dropping off a specimen sample to a collection site, ask for proper collection and transport instructions. Make sure you understand them and follow them exactly.
  • Ask if there are any special preparations you must do before the test. Will you be fasting? Do you need to drink additional fluids? Are there medications or supplements you need to stop taking for a period of time before, or the day of, your test?

If You Are Fasting Before Your Lab Test

Some lab work requires that you fast prior to the specimen collection. This means you cannot eat or drink anything (except water) for eight to 12 hours before the test. Your provider should advise you if you need to fast. If you are not sure, ask your provider. If you show up for a fasting test and have not fasted, your test may need to be rescheduled.

Consider having your test done in the morning so you do not have to fast all day.

What To Bring With You To Your Lab Appointment

  • Physician/provider order (script) – make sure the date on the order is within twelve months of the testing date. If it is not, it is expired and you will need to obtain a new order for the testing to be completed.
  • Drivers license or other personal photo identification with your name and birthdate.
  • Your current health insurance card.

Access To Your Test Results

Our lab will send your results directly to your referring provider. Most testing is completed within 48 hours. Some provider offices will call you only if there is a result that needs follow-up. Other providers will call you regardless of the results. If you have questions about your results, call your provider’s office. The lab will not be able to discuss results with you.
