You don’t have to go through it alone.
There are more than 1 million family members and friends caring for the nearly 400,000 New Yorkers living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Eddy Alzheimer's Services is primarily funded through the Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Initiative, a New York state grant funded effort which seeks to alleviate the financial and emotional burden placed on these caregivers.
Together Eddy Alzheimer’s Services and its grant partner the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern New York, provide a wide range of free supportive services for caregivers across a 11-county region. All services are aimed at helping support the caregiver in their caregiving journey.

The Ways We Can Help
Caregiver Assessment
- Caring for an individual with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia can be overwhelming. A Care Consultation is the first step to receiving support. A consultation occurs between the caregiver and one of our Care Navigators. This may include disease education and referrals to community resources. The Care Navigator remains as a source of support throughout the caregiver's journey.
- Family consultations, facilitated by Care Navigators, provide a forum for caregivers and family members to come together to discuss areas of common concern, and work collaboratively to develop strategies to address these concerns.
Education
There is lot to learn about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Our education and training programs are designed to help caregivers understand the progression of Alzheimer’s disease and prepare them for their evolving roles as a caregiver. Programs may include:
- Savvy Caregiver
- Legal and Financial Planning
- Behavioral Management
- Stress Management
Support Groups
Caregiver support groups are designed to provide emotional support, information, resources, and a platform for caregivers to share strategies and lessons learned with other caregivers. Groups include:
- General Caregiver Support Group
- Men's Support Group
- Ambiguous Loss Support Group
Respite
Caregiving for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias is often a fulltime and exhausting role. Respite care provides temporary relief from the stresses associated with caregiving. Respite services include:
- In-home respite via our Caregiver Directed program or through a contracted agency
- Adult Day Program
- Overnight respite in a facility, such as an assisted living residence or nursing home
Care Teams
Caregivers often need extra support, or even just an extra pair of hands. Our Care Teams are groups of volunteers, who provide valuable non-medical assistance, support, and companionship to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, as well as their families. Team members receive training and ongoing support through Eddy Alzheimer’s Services. Care Team members may provide the following services:
- Assistance with transportation
- Meal preparation
- Offer medication reminders
- Run errands
- Brief respite visits
