Traumatic Brain Injury Study
Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking people 18 years or older who have experienced a traumatic brain injury and would like to participate in a research study. The study will evaluate the use of the Therastride system to improve walking function.
Participants must be:
- At least 12 months post-traumatic brain injury
- Cleared as safe to participate by their doctor
Participants cannot have any of the following:
- Past history of heart conditions for which exercise is contraindicated
- Uncontrolled metabolic conditions and/or seizures
- Other neurological conditions not related to the brain injury (i.e. stroke, Parkinson’s disease)
- Any current orthopedic conditions that affect the ability to walk
- Pregnancy
- Oxygen dependent
- Currently receiving physical therapy and/or received treatment consisting of Body Weight Support Treadmill Training (BWSTT) in the past
Time commitment:
The treatment will consist of 90-minute sessions, three (3) sessions per week for eight (8) weeks for a total of 24 sessions. In addition, there will be an evaluation at the start of the study and at the end of the 24 sessions.
