Heart Surgery Patient Resources
Before, During, and After Heart Surgery
Preparing to have heart surgery may feel a little scary and you will likely have questions. In the following links, we will try to answer questions that are frequently asked about the procedure and its purpose.
We also encourage you to ask questions of your doctor and members of your health care team who are involved in preparing you for the procedure. Before your surgery is performed, your doctor will discuss the operation and any possible risks with you.
Staff will provide you with any additional assistance or information you may require.
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons has provided detailed education to help you prepare for each stage of cardiac surgery.
If you are having congenital heart surgery, your preparation needs may differ from other types of cardiac surgery.
