Planned Downtime Instructions

What is Downtime?

Downtime:  A cessation of use of an application regardless of the apparent ability to input or retrieve information, whether it is because the application itself is not functioning properly or an application that sends or receives data is not functioning properly.  There are multiple types of downtime:

  1. Scheduled Downtime is when the staff has received advanced warning.  These regularly scheduled events allow for planning.  Examples of scheduled downtime are system unavailability during nightly processing, periodic preventative maintenance procedures and hardware and software upgrades.
  2. Unscheduled Downtime occurs with no notice.  If it occurs, call the IT Helpdesk as soon as possible to report system down.
  3. System Disruption is any impairment in system performance or information flow within applications or across application interfaces that impacts the safe and orderly provision of patient care or efficient business operations.  This may include isolated problems to single or multiple workstations, unusual system slowness and/or isolated issues.  If this occurs, call the IT Helpdesk as soon as possible to report system disruptions.
