Ankle Injury

Don't Let Foot Pain Hold You Back

When your feet hurt, it holds you back from doing the things you love or simply going about daily life. But experts at St. Peter’s Health Partners can help. Our team includes experienced foot and ankle surgeons who deliver a high level of care.

Why See a Foot and Ankle Specialist?

Your foot includes nearly a quarter of the bones in your body plus more than 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Many issues can affect these areas, and there are many treatment options. Foot and ankle specialists, like the ones at St. Peter’s Health Partners, excel in diagnosing, managing, and treating these conditions.

Foot and ankle surgeons are medical doctors with advanced training in foot and ankle care. They have extensive knowledge of common and complex issues and must pass a rigorous examination to become board certified. As orthopedists, they use a whole-person approach to care, considering all possible causes for your pain, including lower back and knee issues.

Foot and Ankle Specialists at St. Peter’s Health Partners: Why Choose Us?

You receive care from experienced foot surgeons with years of experience. We deliver trusted care that makes a difference in people’s quality of life. Highlights of our program include:

  • Latest treatments: You have access to leading therapies. For bunion surgery, your care may include Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction™, which is not widely available. This innovative one-time procedure offers a permanent fix for bone deformities at the base of the big toe.
  • Advanced care: We perform sophisticated surgical procedures to reconstruct feet after severe injuries (trauma). Many people with devastating problems, like shattered heels, walk again after recovering from surgery. This level of care is only available from experienced foot and ankle surgeons.
  • Appropriate therapies: Seeing our foot and ankle specialists doesn’t always mean you’ll end up with surgery. Some patients feel better with injections and physical therapy. We only recommend surgery if it’s an appropriate option, and you’re likely to achieve good results. If surgery is right for you, we explain how it can help and what to expect.

Foot and Ankle Procedures

At St. Peter’s Health Partners, you have access to a broad range of procedures, including:

Repairs

St. Peter’s Health Partners’ foot and ankle specialists use a variety of surgical techniques to repair abnormal growths. You benefit from precise care that helps more people achieve excellent results.

Conditions requiring repair procedures include:

  • Bone spurs, an abnormal growth that develops at the edge of a bone, typically in the heel
  • Bunions, bony bumps near the base of your big toe that cause it to push against the next toe
  • Complex trauma, severe accidents including smashed bones and deep cuts
  • Hammertoe, an abnormal bend in in your second, third and fourth toes

Sports injury treatments

Foot and ankle surgeons evaluate and treat stubborn pain from Achilles tendinitis and plantar fasciitis. Our experience from regularly treating these conditions helps you get back to your favorite activities as quickly as possible. Learn more about sports injuries.

Surgical diabetic foot care

People with diabetes face a higher risk of problems that may require amputation (surgically removing all or part of the leg). Working with diabetes experts, podiatrists (foot specialists), and vascular surgeons, we put every possible effort into lowering this risk. We offer:

  • Limb preservation: These surgical procedures treat nonhealing wounds and may help people avoid amputation. Explore our Limb Preservation Program.
  • Amputee program: In some cases, amputation is the most appropriate option for protecting you against life-threatening complications. St. Peter’s Health Partners offers a specialized program to help you recover. Read more about our Lower Limb Amputee Program.

Total ankle replacement

This procedure is for joint issues, like arthritis, that cause progressive pain and stiffness. We remove the worn-out joint and replace it with an artificial device made of high-grade plastic. St. Peter’s Health Partners is home to one of the region’s leading joint replacement programs. We deliver high-quality, efficient care that enables many patients to go home the day of surgery.
