  • Trusted network of mental health specialists: We have a vast network of experts in substance use disorder. Every year, more than 5,000 patients trust our team with their recovery.
  • Patient-focused care coordination: The mental health professionals at St. Peter’s Health Partners work closely with many other health care professionals to treat the whole patient. We coordinate with primary care providers and specialists when needed. Together, we assess and review your plan in order to meet all of your health needs along your journey to wellness.

Crisis Intervention

We treat alcohol and drug addiction crises in emergency departments throughout the Capital Region. Our physicians and nurses will:

  • Stabilize your symptoms
  • Arrange for detox or medically managed detox if needed
  • Keep you as safe and comfortable as possible during withdrawal
  • Assess your mental health
  • Support your family and loved ones

Inpatient Care

Some patients need to stay in the hospital during part of their recovery. Our two inpatient rehab centers are staffed by physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and counselors who specialize in substance abuse. Your care may involve:

  • Detox: In the detox unit, we monitor patients while they withdraw to make sure they are as safe and comfortable as possible.
  • Group therapy: Topics may include relapse prevention, family dynamics and communication skills. Some groups are age- or gender-specific.
  • Individual counseling: Personalized sessions with a counselor can help you identify and reach your goals. We may also offer counseling and support for families and couples.
  • Introduction to recovery programs: Examples include the 12-Step Program used by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Heroin Anonymous (HA).
  • Mentally Ill/Chemically Addicted (MICA) Unit: Many people have a mental health disorder and a substance use disorder at the same time. The MICA unit team can stabilize your symptoms, help you withdraw, keep you safe while you are in the hospital and teach you ways to prevent relapse. Before you leave the MICA unit, you will have a detailed plan on how to stay healthy after discharge.

Prior to leaving the hospital, your team will develop a personalized treatment plan to help you maintain your recovery.

Long-Lasting Recovery

Drug and alcohol addiction can be a lifelong challenge. We offer several options to help you stay on the path to long-lasting recovery. Our outpatient rehab programs offer many of the same services as our inpatient programs, plus:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy: This proven counseling approach will help you explore your thoughts, feeling and actions. It can help you understand how your emotions may affect your recovery.
  • Education: We teach people how to solve problems, manage stress and avoid relapse.
  • MAT: When necessary, we provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT). It complements counseling and behavioral therapy. It can help minimize withdrawal symptoms, prevent overdose and make recovery last.
  • Special program for professionals: We offer a special program to meet the unique needs of busy professionals. Counseling and therapy sessions are planned around regular business hours. And participants get support and encouragement from peers who understand each other’s lifestyles and challenges.

Special Support Services

We offer special support programs for certain groups who need additional support, such as:
