Forensic Examiner Program

Caring for Patients When Health and Legal Systems Intersect

Quick Links: Training for Health Care Providers | Join Our Team

Forensic Examiners care for patients when health care and the legal, or criminal justice system intersect. They respond to patients after a report of a crime and help start the healing process. Our team follows a patient-centered approach to providing options for medical documentation of injuries, evidence/DNA collection, testing, and treatment.  Forensic Examiners can provide expert or fact witness testimony in court cases when necessary.

St. Peter’s Crime Victim Services Forensic Examiner Program sees patients at St. Peter’s Hospital, Samaritan Hospital, and Albany Memorial Campus, 24-hour a day.

We see patients and provide evidence collection for patients who are victims of:

  • sexual assault
  • domestic violence/intimate partner violence
  • physical assault
  • elder abuse
  • child abuse
  • maltreatment
  • neglect
  • human trafficking

All Forensic Examiners within St. Peter’s Health Partners are trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE). We also offer no-cost training to New York State providers to become a SANE.
